You may recall that a few months back I wrote about a Flying Dog beer dinner at Factors Row in Annapolis. The dinner was über Maryland, with food and beer pairings that you won’t find anywhere else in the world. So I was really excited to see that Factors Row was once again teaming up with Flying Dog for an Annapolis Beer Week event. This time though, it was all you can eat wings and oysters, with discounts on all the Flying Dog beers.

Things started out a little shakey.  The poor bartenders had to simultaneously serve drinks to customers and issue wristbands to the event.  It took about 15 minutes to get our wristbands, but once they were securely around our wrists, everything came together.

 

The waitstaff did an amazing job delivering an endless supply of wings to our table and they kept the beers flowing throughout the afternoon.  Factor’s Row offered Buffalo, Thai Chili, and Honey wings.  The flavor of the honey wings was a little meh, but everyone loved the Buffalo and Thai Chili versions!

The tap list had Flying Dog classics like Pearl Necklace and Raging Bitch, but they also offered firkins of Doggie Style with pomegranite, blood orange and citra, and Snakedog with chipotle and lime.  Casey and I sampled the Snakedog, but neither of us could detect the special ingredients other than citra’s signature cat piss aroma.  Personally, I was not a huge fan of these firkins.  They tasted like warm, flat beer. It was like they had been tapped and left out for too long.

I did, however, enjoy a delicious Pearl Necklace Oyster Stout with my endless supply of Barren Island Oysters.  Oysters and stout are a classic pairing for a reason! The BIO crew and Factor’s Row staff did a phenomenal job shucking oysters for two and a half hours.  The lines occasionally built up, but the lightening fast shuckers kept up with the demand…and with oysters that delicious, there was a big demand!

This event was definitely one of the highlights of Annapolis Beer Week.  I hope this becomes an annual event; I’ll be on that like a fat kid on…all you can eat oysters and wings!
